Product Care and Maintenance
To ensure your Park Avenue Wrought Iron product continues to operate correctly and retain its premium appearance for many years, regular care and maintenance is essential. Like all architectural metalwork, ongoing maintenance plays a key role in longevity, performance, and finish.
General Cleaning (Galvanised & Powder Coated Products)
All galvanised and/or powder coated products should be cleaned every 1–3 months, depending on environmental exposure.
Clean using a microfibre cloth, warm soapy water, and a mild detergent.
Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove any residue.
Do not use abrasive cleaners, harsh chemicals, or scouring pads, as these can damage the protective coating.
Environmental & Coastal Exposure
Products installed in coastal, bayside, industrial, or high-pollution environments may require more frequent cleaning.
Salt spray, airborne contaminants, and pollutants can accelerate surface wear if not regularly removed.
In these environments, we recommend monthly cleaning as part of routine maintenance.
Environmental exposure is considered normal and is not a defect in materials or workmanship.
Vegetation & Surroundings
Keep all vegetation, foliage, mulch, and soil clear of metalwork.
Regular pruning helps prevent scratching, chipping, moisture retention, and corrosion.
Ensure landscaping does not trap moisture against posts, base plates, or tracks.
Hardware, Moving Parts & Lubrication
Hinges, rollers, bearings, latches, and other moving components should be periodically inspected and lubricated.
Use appropriate exterior-grade lubricants or grease where applicable.
Routine lubrication helps maintain smooth operation and reduces wear on moving parts.
Sliding Gate Ground Track Cleaning
Sliding gate ground tracks are a high-wear component and require regular attention.
Keep the ground track free of dirt, grit, leaves, stones, and debris.
We recommend inspecting and cleaning the track monthly, or more frequently in high-use or exposed locations.
Avoid excessive oil or grease, as this can attract dirt and accelerate buildup.
Minor surface rust may develop over time due to constant contact and abrasion and is considered normal wear.
Drainage & Water Management
Ensure water does not pool around posts, base plates, ground tracks, or automation equipment.
Poor drainage can contribute to corrosion and operational issues.
Any changes to paving, concreting, or landscaping after installation should not restrict water flow away from metal components.
Fixings & Structural Movement
All external structures are subject to building movement, thermal expansion, and vibration.
We recommend periodically checking that fixings, bolts, and anchors remain secure.
Any looseness or movement should be addressed promptly to avoid further issues.
Touch-Ups & Minor Damage
Scratches or chips in the protective finish should be attended to as soon as possible.
For galvanised products, apply a 99% pure zinc spray to affected areas.
For powder coated products, use a colour-matched epoxy enamel spray paint.
Prompt attention helps prevent moisture ingress and extends the life of the finish.
Pool & Safety Barriers (If Applicable)
Pool fencing and gates must remain compliant with relevant Australian Standards.
Regularly check that:
Gates self-close and self-latch correctly
Hinges and latches operate freely
No gaps, climbable objects, or ground level changes have compromised compliance
Alterations to surrounding surfaces or landscaping may affect compliance.
Automation Care and Maintenance
To maximise the reliability and lifespan of your automation system, the following care is recommended:
Routine Checks & Pest Prevention
Periodically inspect automation equipment for signs of insect or pest activity.
Use suitable barrier or insect sprays around (but not on) automation equipment.
Do not spray chemicals directly on or near circuit boards, control panels, or electrical components.
Battery Backup & Solar Systems
If your system includes a battery backup and/or solar panel, we recommend cycling the battery monthly.
This can be done by temporarily switching off mains power and operating the gate through one full open and close cycle.
Regular cycling helps optimise battery performance and longevity.
Clean Operating Area
Keep the automation unit, gate travel path, and safety zones clear of dirt, debris, and obstructions.
Ensure nothing interferes with gate movement, safety sensors, or limit switches.
Intercoms, Keypads & Access Devices
Clean intercoms, keypads, readers, and access devices using a soft cloth only.
Avoid pressure washing, harsh chemicals, or excessive moisture.
Periodically test all access devices to confirm correct operation.
Operational Noise & Wear
Some operational noise, vibration, or minor surface wear may develop over time, particularly on moving components.
Items such as rollers, hinges, ground tracks, and contact points are considered wear components and require routine maintenance.
Changes in sound or movement are often an indication that cleaning or lubrication is required.
Modifications & Third-Party Works
Any modifications, repairs, or adjustments carried out by others may affect product performance and longevity.
Park Avenue Wrought Iron cannot be responsible for issues arising from works completed by third parties, including landscaping, paving, electrical, or building works undertaken after installation.
Ongoing Support
Regular maintenance protects your investment and ensures your product continues to operate safely, smoothly, and as intended.
For clients who prefer a hands-off approach, Park Avenue Wrought Iron can provide professional inspection and maintenance services upon request.
